After a week+ of distraction, along with a goal to make use of some pre-made board frames sitting around… it has been hard to return to a 2d world after so much work in 3d… but things have started to pick up with some recent experimenting…
Now trying out some old forgotten experiments with incised plastic, layered above and below by transparent & non-transparent textures and objects. (The picture doesn’t show it but the next step beyond this had a very interesting effect where an adhesive paper(a bit like tape) over the incisions created air bubbles wherever there was a cut in the plastic creating a sot of faux embossing effect )…
And btw, for self reference, I love the NT C-1500 Circle Cutter blade device from Japan: http://www.kuretake.co.uk/products/art-and-craft/NT.aspx
the piece i have been working on has begun to sprout fabric… and is starting to feel the effects of louise bourgeois: http://www.cheimread.com/artists/louise-bourgeois/?view=selected&subgallery=2
the victorian bell stand
some years ago i found an old Victorian announcement bell set at an antique shop in Seattle… the frame and bells were in terrible disrepair…
normally i would feel something like this should be at least partially refurbished, especially as the noise-maker in me really wanted to get the bells working once more… however, over time, and given the fact that i was having a tough time getting any of this done, the bells ended up getting polished and sold at different times: (a few are still left on etsy here: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=40721482)…
the wooden frame became part of the huge amount of “art objects” that, one day, i fully intended to do something about… but instead it gathered dust… but no more…
over the last few months, with my push to finally “reclaim” all my “reclaimed” materials, i turned once more to this empty frame, which has turned into lush shelves… ready to contain some odd surrealist item… (perhaps in the tradition of Dali’s Mae West Sofa Lips)… i’m also hoping to return sound in some manner to this piece by re-incorporating the tones of the bells somehow…

note, the sparkling material on the right (mere scraps from my days as a design showroom librarian) is juxtaposed here as i try to figure out how it will be used with the piece… and it is called Beadazzled from a wall covering company called Maya Romanoff: http://www.mayaromanoff.com/
